Women’s Basketball Trounces Cal Poly To Pick Up First Big West Win

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team broke into the win column in Big West play in resounding fashion on Thursday with an 86-46 win over Cal Poly at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

Cal Poly scored first but UH reeled off the next 17 points in the largest run of the season to date and the Rainbow Wahine (7-9, 1-5 Big West) led by as many as 44 on their way to their first victory of 2026.

UH guard Bailey Flavell tied her season high with 22 points and fellow freshman Keiara Curtis added 16 to lead four UH players in double figures in the program's ninth straight win in the series with Cal Poly. The win also ended UH's four-game skid that began on Dec. 20 in the Maui Classic.

Flavell went 8-for-10 from the field and dished out four assists. Curtis was 6-for-11 with three 3-pointers and also had four assists. UH post players Imani Perez and Saniyah Neverson scored 11 points each. Perez also recorded three blocked shots to move into seventh in program history with 109 for her career.
UH set season highs for points and field-goals made (34) in the program's largest margin of victory since last season's 41-point win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The 'Bows also committed a season-low five turnovers and allowed just five offensive rebounds.

Vanessa McManus led Cal Poly (3-13, 1-5) with 22 points

After the Mustangs opened the scoring, Flavell triggered the 17-0 surge with a drive and Izzy Forsyth capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers. UH built their biggest lead of the season by the end of the first quarter and took a 28-6 lead into the second.

Flavell and Curtis were a combined 9-for-12 from the field and hit three 3-pointers between them in the first 20 minutes. The Rainbow Wahine exploded for 51 points by halftime and took a 27-point advantage into the locker room.

UH didn't let up in the second half, building its lead to as many as 44 points. The 'Bows absolutely dominated the box score, out-scoring the Mustangs 23-2 off of turnovers and 42-8 in bench points. UH also doubled-up Cal Poly, 48-24, in points in the paint.
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their homestand on Saturday, Jan. 17 and face UC Santa Barbara.
