Women's Basketball Faces Cal Poly to Open Homestand

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team returns to Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to face Cal Poly on Thursday, Jan. 15 in the opener of a two-game Big West homestand. Tipoff for the matchup between the Rainbow Wahine and Mustangs is set for 7 p.m.
 
The 'Bows enter the week coming off a tightly contested road loss to Big West leader UC Irvine on Jan. 10. Following Thursday's game, they'll face UC Santa Barbara on Saturday to wrap up the weekend.

'BOWS NOTES
  • Freshman guard Bailey Flavell continues to lead the 'Bows with 13.4 points per game. She's scored in double figures in 12 games, including the last five in a row. She also leads the team with 22 3-pointers. 
  • Guard Keiara Curtis set a season high with 17 points against UC Riverside on Jan. 1 and has scored in double digits in each of the last five games.
  • Senior forward Imani Perez ranks second in the Big West and 27th nationally with 1.93 blocked shots per game. She became the eighth UH player to surpass 100 blocks in a career during UH's last homestand. She also leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.
  • As a team, UH leads the Big West and ranks eighth nationally with 6.2 blocks per game. UH rate of blocked shots is ahead of the program record of 5.6 set in the 2004-05 season.
  • With Flavell and Curtis leading the way, UH's six true freshmen have contributed 49.1% of the team's scoring total.
  • This season marks UH's farewell campaign in the Big West before joining the Mountain West starting with the 2026-27 season.
  • UH is 19-3 in Big West home games over the last three seasons.

  • The Rainbow Wahine and Mustangs meet for the 31st time in a series that began on Feb. 11, 1978.
  • UH has won the last eight meetings and 12 of the last 13 going back to the 2018-19 season. Cal Poly posted its lone win in that stretch on Feb. 5, 2021, 79-71 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
  • UH is 9-4 at home against Cal Poly and has won the last five meetings in Honolulu. Cal Poly last defeated UH at home on March 3, 2018 (67-61).
  • The Mustangs dropped both of their games last week with a home loss to CSUN on Jan. 8 before falling at UC Davis on Jan. 10.
  • Cal Poly coach Shanele Stires is in her fourth season leading the Mustangs and has a record of 44-63.
  • Cal Poly guard Vanessa McManus ranks third in the Big West with 19.0 points per game and has scored more than 30 points twice this season.
  • Cal Poly assistant coach Samba Johnson is a graduate of Chaminade University of Honolulu.
  • UH graduate assistant Dyesha Stahley played for Cal Poly from 2015-19, and closed her career sixth in program history with 341 assists. She led the Big West with 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game in 2018-19.
