REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — After a long summer offseason, the University of Hawai'i opened its 2025-26 season on the California coast, competing in the Stanford-hosted PCCSC Singlehanded Championships on Sept. 20.

Scheduled originally as a two-day event, all 10 races were completed on Saturday thanks to beautiful conditions and a brisk ocean breeze. Sailing in lasers, the men's side featured two sailors — senior Erik Anderson and freshman William Bagley who finished in third (30 points) and fourth (35 points), respectively. Anderson won the opening race of the regatta, and finished top three in eight of the 10 races. Nicholas Mueller of Cal Poly Maritime took the event with a regatta-low 17 points.

On the women's side, three sailors represented UH — juniors Martha Schuessler and Stella Taherian, and freshman Gabriella Delgado, who finished in third (31 points), fourth (31 points), and fifth (55 points), respectively. Schuessler edged out Taherian after winning a head-to-head tiebreaker. Schuessler placed top three in eight of the ten races also, and Taherian saw first-place finishes in her opening two races. Host Stanford's Avery Baldwin won the event with a regatta-low 14 points.

The coed team will next compete in the PCCSC Match Race Championship, held in San Diego on Oct. 4-5. The Rainbow Wahine will be back in action the same weekend, but competing across the country in New London, Conn. at the Stu Nelson Intersectional.
