COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team improved three strokes from its opening round score with a 1-over 289 in the second round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Sunday at the Eisenhower Golf Course.
Despite improving its score, the Rainbow Warriors slipped two spots into a tie for 12
th place with a 581 total heading into Monday's final round. Gonzaga moved into the top spot at 565 followed by first round leader Idaho (566) and UC San Diego (566).
Anson Cabello carded the low round of the day for Hawai'i at 2-under 70 and is tied for 19
th place at 2-under 144.
James Whitworth posted 75 and is 2-over 146 and tied for 43
rd along with teammate
Dane Watanabe show shot 1-under 71.
Also competing for UH are
Nathan Szpakowicz (147, t-56
th) and
Chris Salem (151, t-90
th).
Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell carded a 5-under 67 and is 9-under 135 and holds a two-stroke lead over UC San Diego's Davis McDowell.
The third and final round is scheduled for Monday. UH is grouped with Weber State, San Jose State, and UC Davis with tee times off of hole No. 10 beginning at 8:20 a.m.
In a separate individual tournament, UH's
Alec Hilgers carded 1-over 73 and is tied for 30
th at 5-over 149.
Quinn Murray and
Cameron Combado each shot 79 and are 151 and 154, respectively.
