COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is tied for 10
th at 4-over 292 after the first round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Saturday at the Eisenhower Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors are tied with Northern Colorado among the 23-team field. Idaho leads the tournament at 283 followed by Gonzaga (285), Utah State (287), Cal Baptist (287) and UC San Diego (287).
Individually,
James Whitworth carded a 1-under 71 to lead the Rainbow Warriors. The senior from Carlsbad, Calif., is tied for 14
th place.
Anson Cabello is one stroke behind him at even par 72 and tied for 26
th.
Also competing for UH are
Nathan Szpakowicz (74, t-53
rd),
Dane Watanabe (75, t-63
rd), and
Chris Salem (76, t-77
th).
Cal Baptist's Jared Abercrombie and Utah Valley's Paxton Maxwell share the individual lead at 4-under 68 while a group of five golfers are a stroke back.
The second round is scheduled for Sunday. UH is grouped with Air Force, UT Arlington, and UC Santa Barbara with tee times beginning at 10:10 a.m.
In a separate individual tournament, UH's
Quinn Murray shot even par 72 and is tied for 15
th. Freshman
Cameron Combado carded 3-over 75 and is tied for 28
th while freshman
Alec Hilgers posted 76 and sits in 32
nd place.
