COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in four weeks, University of Hawai'i placekicker
Kansei Matsuzawa was named the Mountain West's Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Tokyo, Japan native earned the distinction following his three-field goal performance in the Rainbow Warriors' 23-3 victory over Portland State on Saturday. Matsuzawa received his first career weekly award in Week 0, after kicking the game-winner in UH's win over Stanford.
The senior exceeded his career-long twice against the Vikings when he nailed a 44-yard field goal on UH's opening drive of the second half. He followed that with a 47-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Matsuzawa also connected on a 35-yarder in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring while tying his career-high of three field goals made, which he also did in last week's win over Sam Houston. Affectionately nicknamed "Tokyo Toe," Matsuzawa is a perfect 11-of-11 on the year in field goal attempts and 8-of-8 in PATs. He leads FBS with 11 field goals and is third in scoring with 41 points.
