WAIPAHU, O'ahu – After falling into an early hold, the Hawai'i women's soccer team battled back for a 2-2 draw with California Baptist to close out the OUTRIGGER No Kai Oi Sunday at Waipi'o Soccer Stadium.
Izzy Ayala and
Cate Sheahan each came through with goals in the final 25 minutes of the match as the Rainbow Wahine snapped a two-match losing streak with the tie. It's also the second time this year that UH erased a two-goal deficit to come back and secure a draw (Aug. 17 at Pepperdine, 2-2).
Facing a two-goal deficit heading into the final 25 minutes, the Rainbow Wahine battled back with a pair of late goals to equalize. Ayala rolled the first goal through from long range in the 68th minute to put Hawai'i on the board, before Sheahan found the top left corner of the net off a pair of beautiful passes from
Jordyn Eldredge Sagapolutele to pull UH even in the 73rd minute.
The 'Bows had a chance to take the lead in the 80th minute when Sheahan fired off a shot from close range that was saved by CBU goalkeeper Rebecca Winton. From there, the UH defense fought off a trio of Lancer shot attempts to finish off the tie.
The Rainbow Wahine found themselves in an early hole after allowing a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes. Nikki Mau scored CBU's first goal off a cross to the right side of the goal in the 15th minute to make it 1-0, and Ava Westlund doubled the lead with another strike from close range in the 20th minute.
Sheahan became the first Hawai'i player to score their second goal of the season while running her career total to nine while Ayala's goal was the third of her career and first since her freshman season in 2023. Porter is now tied for the team lead with four points after recording her second assist while Eldredge Sagapolutele's assist was her second helper of the year.
The Rainbow Wahine hit the road for a pair of nonconference matches starting Thursday at Sacramento State. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. HT.
