NORMAN, Okla. – A program-record six University of Hawai'i men's golfers were named to the 2024-25 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list.
Anson Cabello,
Josh Hayashida,
Tyler Ogawa,
Garrett Takeuchi,
Dane Watanabe, and
James Whitworth were among the 556 Division I athletes from 190 schools to earn the prestigious recognition.
UH's six honorees tied fellow Division I schools College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, and Mississippi State for the most recipients across all six divisions. Previously, UH's high total was three set last year when Hayashida, Ogawa and Kolbe Irei were recognized.
To be eligible for All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be at least a sophomore in standing both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Five of the six – Cabello, Hayashida, Ogawa, Watanabe, and Whitworth were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team while all six were named to the Big West's Academic All-Conference team.
Hayashida led the team with a 72.96 scoring average with three Top 20 finishes and tied the program record for low round with a 9-under 63 in the second round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate.
Ogawa finished his four-year career with a career-best 73.20 scoring average while Takeuchi completed his career with a 75.57 average in seven tournaments.
