Softball Falls Twice at Big West Championship; Coolen Concludes Career

FULLERTON, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i softball team's season came to an end after falling twice in the Big West Championship at the Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif.. In their first game, the Rainbow Wahine's seventh inning rally fell just short, losing to CSUN 4-3. UH's Jamie McGaughey hit a solo home run in the seventh to close to within a run of the Matadors. But CSUN held off Hawai'i to advance to the Championship game. In the final game of the night, UC Santa Barbara pulled away from Hawai'i to eliminate the 'Bows, 8-1.

Friday night also marked the end of Hawai'i head coach Bob Coolen's final games of his 34 year career at the helm of the UH program. Coolen finishes his career with a 1,133-736-1 record at UH and a career record of 1,205-828-1.

Kylie Galindo then drove in Liana with an RBI single to tie game at 1-1. Later, Raegan Jackson hit a ball to the centerfield fence that went in and out of the glove of Chloe Bores for a two-run error which allowed a pair of Matadors to cross the plate for the 3-1 lead.

CSUN's Liana lifted a shallow sac fly to center to drive in Mikayla Carman from third to extend their lead to 4-1.

CSUN starter Carranco had retired 14-straight until Borges led off the sixth with a solo home run to left. It marked Borges seventh homer of the season and her second of the tournament.
