Four Rainbow Wahine Earn All-Big West Honors

IRVINE, Calif.--The Big West Conference announced its all-conference awards for women's tennis on Thursday as voted by the league coaches. The University of Hawai'i had four Rainbow Wahine seniors earn all-Big West honors. Ana Vilcek earned All-Big West first team honors in singles and honorable mention honors with doubles partner Nikola Homolkova. UH's Peppi Ramstedt was selected as an honorable mention recipient in both singles and doubles with partner Sheena Masuda.

Vilcek, a four-year starter for the Rainbow Wahine, earned All-Big West honors for the fourth-consecutive season. This is her second-straight season being voted to the all-Big West First Team. She finished with a team-best 11-3 dual match record. She won eight of her last nine matches—including her last six straight.  She played 11 of her 14 total matches at No. 1.  On April 2, Vilcek earned her third career Big West Player of the Week award after recording the biggest upset of her career, defeating 10th-ranked Amelia Honer of UC Santa Barbara in a third set tiebreaker.

Vilcek and Homolkova paired together for all but one.doubles match this season. They played primarily on the No.2 court, posting a 7-7 record this season. It marked the fourth-straight season that the senior from Pelhrimov, Czech Republic has earned all-Big West honors.

The UH duo of Ramstedt and Masuda recorded a team-best 9-6 record in doubles playing the last 15 matches at No. 1. Ramstedt and Masude won four of their last six decisions, including a 6-4 win over 50th-ranked UC Santa Barbara's Lucy Lu and Honer. For Masuda, it is the third time earning all-Big West doubles honors after receiving second team honors in 2022 and first team honors in 2023 at Long Beach State.

Ramstedt, who transferred to UH to conclude her collegiate career at Hawai'i, won her first five-straight singles matches to begin her Rainbow Wahine career. She finished with an 8-9 record for the season and won tw of her last three decisions. The native of Helsinki, Finland was named Big West Player of the Week for the second time of her career on Feb. 5th. Last year she earned the award as a member of the Long Beach State team. This is the first time Ramstedt has earned Big West honors in singles. At LBSU, she twice earned all-Big West accolades in doubles and once in singles as an honorable mention awardee in 2023.
