Senior Weekend On Tap For Beach Volleyball

HONOLULU – The No. 16 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team will play its final regular-season home matches of 2025 when it hosts No. 10 Cal and No. 13 Grand Canyon April 12-13 at the Clarence T.C Ching Complex. The matches are open to fans with free admission.
 
UH's final match of the weekend on Sunday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. versus GCU will be broadcast live on Spectrum Sports. Following that match, Rainbow Wahine players Amirah Ali, Alana Embry, Kendall Kaelin and Cami Loker will be honored as part of Senior Night festivities.
 
UH (12-15) is back home for the first time in more than a month after playing its last 15 dual matches on the mainland. The BeachBows went 7-8 during the trip, while playing 10 nationally-ranked opponents during that stretch. Among UH's wins were a pair this past weekend versus No. 14 Stetson and No. 16 North Florida in the Best in the West Tournament in Laguna Beach, Calif.

Following Senior Weekend, the BeachBows will head back on the road for the Big West Championship, April 24-25 in Santa Monica, Calif.

'Bow Bits: UH has used 15 different combinations this year and had four new pairings during this past week's Best in the West tournament… the duos of Sarah Burton-Caprice Lorenzo (14-13) and Jesse Mann-Jasmine Wandeler (12-15) are the only pairs to appear in all 27 matches together….Burton and Lorenzo have played 35 matches together over the span of the last three years…the BeachBows started the season 3-15 in three-set matches but went 9-6 in such scenarios.

All-Time Series Records: The BeachBows are 10-2 all-time against GCU, including 6-2 in Honolulu…this will be the third time in the last four years that UH hosts GCU in its final home weekend of the year….UH is 5-3 all-time against Cal, including 5-1 at home…this will be the fifth straight year the teams met…the Golden Bears have won three of the last five meetings, including a 3-2 decision in last year's East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach.    
 
All-Time At Ching Complex: The Rainbow Wahine hold a stellar 36-10 (.783) record at the Ching Complex since starting play there in 2015…UH has won its last 10 matches at Ching...its last loss came at the hands of #7 GCU on April 10, 2022.

Versus Ranked Squads: UH is 107-108 (.498) all-time versus ranked squads, including 3-15 this season…11  of those losses have come against Top 10 squads and all but one against squads in the top 12… UH is 14-10 (.583) all-time against ranked teams at Ching.

BeachBow Seniors: Four Rainbow Wahine will be making their final regular-season home appearances this weekend.

Amirah Ali (Murrietta, Calif.) has completed four years in the program…has appeared in the starting lineup in 14 matches as a BeachBow...in her collegiate debut as a freshman, picked up a three-set win against second-ranked UCLA…most recently picked up the clinching point in UH's win over No. 16 North Florida this past weekend...will graduate with a degree in psychology.

Alana Embry (Poway, Calif.) is in her second season with the BeachBows…enjoyed a stellar debut season with UH in 2024...named an AVCA second team All-American and first team all-Big West performer while playing all 36 matches...has won more than three dozen matches at UH while playing the majority of matches at the top of the order...will earn her undergraduate degree in psychology.

Kendall Kaelin (Lake Oswego, Ore.) is in her fourth year in the program having first stepped on campus in the fall of 2021…has primarily at the No. 6 court in three years on the sand…teamed with Sydney Miller at the No. 4 court for her first collegiate win vs. Chaminade during the Queen's Cup this past March...will earn her undergraduate degree from UH in marketing.

Cami Loker (Carlsbad, Calif.), was part of the beach volleyball program for three years....medically retired just prior to the beginning of this season...played the majority of her matches at the No. 6 court.... made her collegiate debut at the 2023 Big West Challenge, scoring a win over Sacramento State at the No. 5 court ..will graduate this spring from UH with a degree in environmental  studies major with a minor in studio  art.
