Men's Volleyball Hosts OUTRIGGER Big West Championship This Week

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team received a first round bye and ticket to the semifinal round of this week's OUTRIGGER Big West Championship by virtue of a top two finish in the regular season. The second-seeded Rainbow Warriors (24-5) are hosting the tournament at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center for the fifth time and will meet the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal match-up between third-seeded UC Irvine and sixth-seeded CSUN on Friday, April 25. First serve is 7:00 p.m.

  • UH is hosting the Big West Championship at SimpliFi Arena for the second consecutive year, fourth time in the last five seasons, and fifth time overall. Hawai'i previously hosted the tournament in 2019, '21, '22, and '24.
  • UH has a 5-2 record in the Big West Championship as hosts of the tournament.
  • UH has won three Big West Championship titles (2019, '22, and '23).
  • Hawai'i is 4-2 in the semifinal round having reached the finals in 2018, '19, '22, and '23. UH's two losses were to UC San Diego in 2021 and UC Irvine last season.
  • UH head coach Charlie Wade has a 12-9 record in 12 all-time conference tournament appearances (MPSF and Big West) having advanced to the championship match five times with three titles.
  • Wade tied former coach Mike Wilton's all-time program record of 316 victories in last week's win at UC Santa Barbara. Wade has a 316-129 record in 16 seasons.
  • UH and UCI have met in the Big West Championship tournament four times, three times in the semifinals (2018, '19, and '24) and once in the championship match (2023). Hawai'i is 3-1 against the Anteaters with its only loss last season in the semifinals in Honolulu.
  • UH and CSUN have never met in the Big West Championship. In fact, the Matadors are the only team UH has not faced in the tournament.
  • UH swept the season series with the Anteaters, winning both matches in straight sets in Honolulu while Hawai'i and CSUN split the season series in Northridge, with each winning in straight sets.
  • UH was the No. 2 seed in the Big West Championship three previous times (2018, '19, and '22) winning twice (2019 and '22), both of which were against Long Beach State in the finals in Honolulu.
  • UH's 24 wins this season is tied for seventh-most in program history.
  • UH is 16-3 at home this season.
