Baseball Drops Finale at No. 13 UCI

IRVINE, Calif. – For the second straight day the Hawai'i baseball team was shut out as it fell 5-0 at No. 13 UC Irvine Saturday, suffering their first series sweep of the season.

The Rainbow Warriors were blanked for the second time in as many days, marking the first time since 2018 that UH was shut out in back-to-back games.

Anteater starting pitcher Ryder Brooks tossed the second consecutive complete-game shut out for UCI, striking out nine batters and walking one while holding the 'Bows to just two hits. Brooks held Hawai'i hitless over the first four innings and allowed just one batter to advance past second base, while working with multiple runners on just once.

UCI got on the board in the third inning when Chase Call ripped a two-out, three-run homer out to left field on an 0-2 pitch. A solo homer to lead off the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth provided more than enough offense for Anteater pitching.

Hawai'i pitching again did a solid job to keep the 'Bows in the game against the top hitting team in the conference. Cooper Walls started and went 3.1 innings with three strikeouts before Isaiah Magdaleno relieved him and went the rest of the way, punching out a career-high seven batters over 4.2 innings.

The Rainbow Warriors return home to open an eight-game homestand by hosting Chaminade on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
