Long Ball Powers Baseball to Win

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i baseball team blasted four home runs to lead the way in a 14-4 win over Chaminade to open an eight-game homestand Tuesday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

Kamana Nahaku went yard twice while Ben Zeigler-Namoa and Shunsuke Sakaino homered once each as the Rainbow Warriors' four long balls marked the most they've hit in a game at home this year. It's also the most homers UH has hit in a game at home since May 12, 2024 against UC Riverside.

The Rainbow Warriors broke their 20 inning scoreless streak with a run in the first inning, as Matthew Miura walked and came around to score on a groundout.

Chaminade struck back with four runs in the fifth, tying it up on an RBI single and taking the lead with back-to-back doubles to make it 4-1.

Hawai'i came roaring back in the bottom half with four runs to jump in front for good. After Jack Salmon came through with a pinch-hit RBI single, Ben Zeigler-Namoa launched a three-run shot out to left center field with two outs in the frame to make it 5-4.

Nahaku doubled the lead with a no-doubt shot out to left field in the sixth before Sakaino blasted a two-run shot out to right center in the seventh, making it 8-4.

UH blew things open in the eighth with six runs to give the game its final score. Konnor Palmeira and Zeigler-Namoa delivered RBI doubles around a Miura sacrifice fly before Kevin Ferguson hit a pinch-hit RBI single to make it 12-4. Nahaku then stepped up and crushed his second no-doubt homer of the game to left field to put the exclamation point on the win.

Zeigler-Namoa finished the day with four RBIs, going 2-for-5 with his 13th double of the year, while Nahaku drove in three runs and finished 2-for-3. Sakaino turned in a 3-for-4 day with three runs scored and two RBIs and Palmeira scored twice while recording his second double of the year.

The Rainbow Warriors host Cal State Bakersfield over the weekend at Les Murakami Stadium starting Friday at 6:35 p.m.
