STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team continued their marvelous season in Northern California by finishing runner-up at the PCCSC Team Race Championship this past weekend. The second-place finish marked UH's best performance at this event since 2017.
After a rough start to the event, the initially scheduled two-day regatta saw magical conditions and allowed all 10 team's races to be completed in a productive Saturday of triple round-robin competition. Host Stanford raced a perfect 19-0 to secure the championship.
Despite losing their first race of the day, the Rainbow Sailors went 6-3 in the first round, followed by a 4-1 and 3-2 record in rounds two and three respectively, finishing the day with an overall record of 13-6. Sailing for UH this weekend were Erik Anderson, Amanda Turner, Martha Schuessler, Everett McAvoy, Arden Rathkopf, Vivian Bønsager, Kees Horn, and Sophia Shaeffer.
The UH coed team will be in Richmond, Calif. this weekend, April 19-20, as they compete in the PCCSC Fleet Race Championship and seek a berth into the ICSA Nationals.
