Men's Tennis Falls at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (3-11. 0-2 Big West) fell at UC Davis, 4-1 in their opener in the 2025 Golden State Invitational. Friday's match was a lot closer than the score indicates as five singles matches went to three sets at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. With the win, the Aggies improved to 7-4 overall at 1-0 in the Big West.

UC Davis won on the No. 2 and 3 courts to start off taking the doubles point. UH was battling in all three matches. On the No. 3 court, UH's Quinn Snyder and Andy Hernandez fell to UCD's Perry DiGiulio/Sam De Vries, 6-3. UH's No. 2 duo of Diego Dalisay and Karl Collins lost by a break to Ryan Torres/Ivan Savkin, 6-4. The No. 1 match between Hawai'i's Azuma Visaya and Tianhao Hou and UC Davis' Lucas Bollinger and Kaveh Taheri was knotted at 5-5 when the point was won.

The Aggies jumped out to a 3-0 lead after winning their No. 6 and 5 matches. Hawai'i's No. 2 Quinn Snyder then battled his way back after dropping his first set then held off UCD's Bollinger in the final two frames to record UH's lone win on the day, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Snyder improved to 7-0 in singles for his senior campaign.

UCD then clinched the match on the No. 3 court with Taheri defeating Collins in three, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The final two matches went unfinished with UCD's DiGiulio dueling against UH's Dalisay. Dalisay won the first set, but was trailing by a game in the third when the match was clinched, 4-6, 6-2, 5-4. UH's Visaya and UCD's Torres were locked in a three-set battle as well. Torres won the first set, but Visaya clawed his way back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 11-9 and Torres was up a game in the third when the match was called, 6-4, 6-7 (9), 1-0.

Hawai'i remains on the road and will conclude the Golden State Invitational against Nevada on Saturday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m. HT at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
