Men's Tennis Edged Out at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (3-10, 0-1 Big West) was edged out by Sacramento State (5-6) on the road, 4-3 on Wednesday. The hard fought match was stalled after doubles due to a two-hour rain delay at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.

Hawai'i's No. 3 doubles duo of Quinn Snyder and Andy Hernandez started things off by defeating Sac State's Martin Duris and Miles Whitehead, 6-3. Sacramento State then tied things up as Nick Bowles and Hayden Rand held off UH's NO. 2 Diego Dalisay and Karl Collins by a break, 6-4. On the No.1 court, the Hornets' Henry Lamchinniah and Gur Libal were able to hold on to defeat UH's Azuma Visaya and Tianhao Hou, 7-5 to take the early 1-0 lead.

After the rain delay, Sacramento State took a 2-0 lead as Duris defeated UH's Hou on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-2. But then the Rainbow Warriors rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the match. Hawai'i's Dalisay led the charge knocking off Rand at No. 4 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. UH's Collins followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bowls on the No. 3 court to tie the score at 2-2. Snyder remained undefeated and kept his winning streak alive by pulling away from Libal at No.2 in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Snyder is now 6-0.

Sac State however fought back as No. 1 Lamchinniah held off UH's Visaya, 6-4, 6-4 to knot the score at 3-3. The match then hinged on the No. 6 match between David Dai and UH's Hernandez. Hernandez took the first set, but fell in a second set tie-breaker. Dai then rolled in the third to clinch the match and the team win, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.

The Rainbow Warriors remain on the road and will now compete in the Golden State Invitational hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. UH will take on UC Davis in a Big West contest to open the tournament on Friday, March 7 at 8:00 a.m. HT. The 'Bows will then battle Nevada for the second time this season on Saturday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m. HT.
