DID YOU KNOW?
Isaiah Magdaleno currently ranks in the top 10 nationally in five major pitching categories. He leads the nation in WHIP (0.49) and is third in hits allowed/9 innings (3.65), fifth in K/BB ratio (14.0), eighth in BB/9 innings (0.73) and ninth in ERA (1.09).
TWO-WAY TAKEMOTO
A fan favorite since stepping foot on the UH campus last year,
Itsuki Takemoto has begun to blossom as a two-way standout at the front of the starting rotation and in the middle of the lineup. Takemoto owns a 3.09 ERA on the mound this year with 30 strikeouts to just five walks over 35.0 innings pitched, and has gotten the series opening start each of the last two weeks. At the plate, he is batting .343 with a homer, 12 RBIs and four doubles with eight starts at designated hitter, five of which have come in the last six games. Takemoto has hit in the No. 4, 5 or 6 spots in the order in seven of his eight starts in the lineup, and last Friday against UC Davis started both on the mound and in the order for the first time in his career.
COMING UP CLUTCH
The Rainbow Warriors have come through in clutch situations so far in 2025, putting up strong numbers with two outs and with runners in scoring position. UH has scored 51.5 percent (83-of-161) of its runs with two gone in an inning while hitting .369 as a team with two outs. The 'Bows are also batting .357 with runners in scoring position, 53 points higher than their overall team batting average.
MIURA'S NEARLY PERFECT WEEKEND
Hawai'i center fielder
Matthew Miura went on a tear over the weekend against UC Davis. Miura reached base in 15 of his 16 plate appearances against the Aggies, including 13 in a row to begin the series. Miura went 8-for-9 with six walks and two doubles while scoring four runs. He raised his batting average to from .257 all the way up to .325 in the process and now leads the Big West with 20 walks on the season.
THE UNHITTABLES
Two of the Rainbow Warrior pitching staff's best arms have also been among the best in the country so far in 2025.
Liam O'Brien and
Isaiah Magdaleno each rank in the top 10 nationally in ERA, making Hawai'i the only team in the country to have two pitchers in the top 10. O'Brien also leads the nation in hits allowed per nine innings while Magdaleno ranks third while both are also in the top 30 nationally in WHIP.
ROLL IT
Hawai'i ranks among the nation's leaders in double plays turned through the first six weeks. UH is fourth in the country and first in the Big West with 25 double plays on the season. The Rainbow Warriors have turned at least one double play in 17 of the 23 games, including seven in last weekend's sweep of UC Davis. Of the 25 double plays, 16 have been inning-ending while 11 have been of the 6-4-3 variety and four have gone 4-6-3.
