Women's Tennis Comes Up Short vs. Cal Poly

HONOLULU—The 70th-ranked University of Hawai'i women's tennis team fell in a tightly contested match against No. 51 Cal Poly. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the Big West, while the Mustangs improved to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in conference.
 
Cal Poly won the doubles point winning on the No. 3 and 2 courts.
 
In singles, Ana Vilcek quickly tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kennedy Buntrock. But the Mustangs then won the next three matches to clinch the match at 4-1. CP's Natalie Lynch swept UH's Joelle Lanz in the No. 6 match, 6-2, 7-5. On the No. 4 court, UH's Emma Forgac won the opening set against Alexandra Ozerets, but fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Cal Poly's No. 2 Peyton Dunkle clinched the match with a three set victory over UH's Peppi Ramstedt, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
 
Hawai'i's No. 3, Nikola Homolkova was locked in a marathon battle against Romane Mosse. Homolkova battled back after dropping the first to win In thre, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2. On the No. 5 court, UH's Makeilah Nepomuceno fought hard, but was edged out by Jessica MacCallum, 6-2, 6-7 (0), 6-4.
 
The Rainbow Wahine wrap up their home schedule with their Senior Day match vs. No. 50 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. HT. UH will be honoring its four seniors—Ana Vilcek, Nikola Homolkova, Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt.
