Rainbow Sailors Place Second At PCCSC South Series

LOS ANGELES – The University of Hawaii coed sailing team had another solid showing at the PCCSC South Series with a runner-up finish this weekend off the coast of Southern California.

A year after winning the regatta, UH couldn't repeat but had a strong showing at the two-day event, placing second. Stanford took home the regatta trophy with a low of 51 points, while UH finished with 69 points, edging UC Santa Barbara by a mere point.

A total of 16 schools descended on Southern California with 20 races – 10 each in the A and B divisions –  completed.

B Division sailors Arden Rathkopf and Stella Taherian clinched the second-place finish for the 'Bows by capturing the final race of the regatta to surge just ahead of the Gauchos. It was one of three races the duo captured over the weekend. Erik Anderson and Amanda Turner sailed in the A division, placing in the top five in all 10 races.

Next up for the Rainbows is the PCCSC Team Race Championship, April 12-13, in Redwood City, Calif.
