Water Polo Extends Win Streak to Five with Victory Over No. 25 Pacific

HONOLULU — The third-ranked University of Hawai'i water polo team broke away from No. 25 Pacific in the second half in a 15-8 non-conference win on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

UH senior Jordan Wedderburn scored three of her match-high five goals after halftime to help the Rainbow Wahine pull away from the Tigers and improve to 14-3 with their fifth straight win.

Camille Radosavljevic posted her second hat trick of the season, with two goals coming in a 6-0 UH run bridging the third and fourth quarters. Wedderburn scored twice in the run and freshmen Ema Vernoux and Silvanne Slot also contributed to the surge and UH improved to 31-0 in the all-time series with Pacific (9-8).

UH goalie Daisy Logtens made four saves and came up with four steals to anchor the Rainbow Wahine defense.

Pacific scored the first two goals of the match, but the Rainbow Wahine countered with two goals of their own. Gabrielle Doyle netted UH's first goal at the 1:43 mark of the first quarter followed by another score by Alia Burlock.

Wedderburn netted the first two goals of the second quarter for the 'Bows followed by scores from Tara Logan and Radosavljevic. The Tigers scored two goals in the period and UH held a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Vernoux nailed a penalty shot at the 7:43 mark of the third quarter. Pacific tallied a goal to close the gap to 7-5, but the Rainbow Wahine responded with a 3-0 scoring run to close out the period.

Radosavljevic scored on back-to-back possessions to earn her second career hat trick. Slot found the back of the net with 30 seconds left in the quarter to put the 'Bows up by five.

The Rainbow Wahine extended their scoring run to 6-0 into the fourth quarter. Wedderburn tacked on a goal followed by Vernoux's second score of the match to extend the lead to 13-5.

Wedderburn netted her fourth goal and tallied her fifth shortly after with a tough back-handed shot against multiple Pacific defenders.

Stevilyn Griffin scored the final goal of the evening with 13 seconds left and UH secured its fifth straight victory.

The Rainbow Wahine resume Big West action against UC Davis on Saturday, March 29 at 6:00 p.m. HT at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
