SACRAMENTO – The Hawai'i women's track and field team capped off a strong opening weekend of outdoor season Saturday at the Hornet Invitational with several more program top 10s, highlighted by
Lucy Milliner's school record in the 1500m.
The Rainbow Wahine finished second in team point totals for the weekend behind only California, posting seven more program top 10 marks after adding six on day one Friday.
Milliner shattered the previous program record in the 1500m, running a 4:23.12 to lower the top mark in school history by over three seconds to become the first UH runner ever to run under 4:25. The freshman also moved into second in the 800m earlier in the weekend.
Sariah Hernandez added to the solid showing by the Hawai'i distance crew, posting the fourth-fastest time in the 3000m steeplechase stopping the clock in 11:08.72.
Maya Holman cracked the UH top 10 in two different events with her performances Saturday, moving into seventh in the long jump and ninth in the 100m hurdles. The senior transfer finished off her first outdoor meet as a Rainbow Wahine with a mark of 5.91m (19-4.75) while posting a time of 14.29 in the 100m hurdles.
Lilian Turban kicked off her outdoor season with yet another win in the high jump, clearing 1.74m (5-8.5) while also entering the UH top 10 in the shot put with a toss of 14.45m (47-5.0).
The two Hawai'i relay squads also posted school top 10 times Saturday, starting with the 4x100m relay team of
Deiona Carter,
Sammie Gordon,
Amelie Fairclough and
Isabella Kneeshaw that moved into 10th with a time of 47.23. The 4x400m team of Fairclough,
Catherine Touchette, Gordon and Kneeshaw capped off the meet by posting the fifth-fastest time in UH history, stopping the clock in 3:45.39.
The Rainbow Wahine continue the outdoor season with a split squad weekend at the Mike Fanelli Classic and Stanford Invitational, Apr. 3-5.
