DID YOU KNOW?
The Rainbow Warriors have won eight consecutive home series dating back last season (last series loss - Mar. 28-30 vs. UC Irvine). Since Apr. 2 of last year, UH is 27-4 at Les Murakami Stadium with four series sweeps during that span.
RANKED SERIES DUB
Hawai'i is coming off of a huge series win over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara. Despite dropping a pitcher's duel in the opener, the 'Bows bounced back for 15-7 and 1-0 wins over the Gauchos on Saturday and Sunday to earn their first series win over a ranked team since 2010 (Oregon). UH pitching held one of the Big West's top offenses to a .186 batting average and nine runs all weekend, striking out 25 batters while walking just five.
TROPICAL SWARM
A year after leading the nation in ERA, the Rainbow Warrior pitching staff has again positioned themselves as one of the elite groups in the country. UH currently ranks 15th in ERA (3.39) and 12th in WHIP (1.17) while also ranking in the top 20 nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (19th - 7.13) and opponent batting average (19th - .217). UH has relied on a deep pool of arms to get the job done, as 10 different pitchers have earned a win and 13 pitchers have appeared at least four games.
SOLIDIFYING THE ROTATION
The Rainbow Warriors have gotten some strong performances from its starting pitchers throughout the first month of the season. A trio of arms have begun to emerge as go-to guys to start games, with
Itsuki Takemoto earning a start in each of the first five weeks,
Liam O'Brien getting a starting nod the last four weeks and
Cooper Walls starting three times this year. When starting games, the trio have combined to post a 2.31 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, allowing just 42 hits and 20 runs over 62.1 innings with 56 strikeouts.
» O'Brien leads the nation in hits allowed per nine innings (2.84) and is 16th in WHIP (0.75) and 21st in ERA (1.07). He did not allow an earned run over his first 24.1 innings pitched this year.
» Takemoto has been a part of the weekend rotation each of the first five series, moving into the Friday night role last week vs. UCSB after spending the first four weeks as the game two starter.
» The sophomore from Japan has pitched at least five innings in every start, but has gotten just 12 total runs of support while in the game all year.
» Walls is the reigning Big West Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven shutout innings vs. No. 15 UC Santa Barbara Sunday. He has not given up a run in 11.0 innings pitched in Big West play.
COMING UP CLUTCH
The Rainbow Warriors have come through in clutch situations so far in 2025, putting up strong numbers with two outs and with runners in scoring position. UH has scored 52.0 percent (66-of-127) of its runs with two gone in an inning while hitting .372 as a team with two outs. The 'Bows are also batting .362 with runners in scoring position, 68 points higher than their overall team batting average.
