Softball Splits OUTRIGGER Invitational Doubleheader

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (13-7) split their Friday doubleheader on Day Three of the OUTRIGGER Invitational. The Rainbow Wahine recorded their first run-rule win of the season, defeating Jackson State, 10-1 in six innings, but fell to Washington 8-2 in the night cap on Friday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai'i 10, Jackson State 1 (6 innings)
The Rainbow Wahine got a solid performance from starting pitcher Addison Kostrencich while Jamie McGaughey launched a pair of home runs as UH recorded its first mercy rule win of the season.

Kostrencich improved to 7-3 with the complete-game win. She allowed one run while scattering three hits with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Hawai'i scored one run in the second off an RBI-triple hit down the first baseline by Chloe Borges that drove in Carys Murakami who reached on a single earlier in the frame.

In the third UH rallied with two outs to score five runs. With one out, Maycen Gibbs started things with a triple hit down the leftfield line. Gibbs scored on an RBI-groundout to short by Liliana Thomas. Jamie McGaughey then crushed a first pitch for a home run over the centerfield. It marked her fourth homer of her career. Milan Ah Yat and Murakami followed with back-to-back singles. Ellyanna Cinzori then stepped up and launched a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to give UH a 7-0 lead. For Cinzori, it marked not only her first home run, but her first hit of her career.

UH added another run in the fifth on an RBI-single by Murakami to third that drove in pinch runner Sunni Kahanu.

Jackson State broke through on the scoreboard on a Jace Jackson home run.

Hawai'i's McGaughey then crushed her second home run of the game to left-centerfield in the sixth for the walk-off win in six innings. The homer brought home Martinez and pinch hitter Neveah Telles.

Jackson State starter Brooklyn Morris threw 5-2/3 innings allowing 10 runs on 13 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Washington 8, Hawai'i 2
The Huskies won their eighth-straight game, erupting for seven runs—five coming with two outs in the second to put the game out of reach. Washington tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single that extended their lead to 8-0.

Washington starter Sophia Ramuno retired the first nine batters she faced. But in the fourth, Martinez led off with a single to break up the perfect game. Later with two outs and Liliana Thomas at first, McGaughey drilled a double down the leftfield line to score Thomas all the way from first. Milan Ah Yat followed with an RBI-single to right-centerfield to drive home McGaughey to trim their deficit to 8-2.

UH relief pitcher Millie Fidge threw the final 5-1/3 innings, retiring the last 10-straight batters. She allowed two runs on two hits with a walk. UH starter Macy Brandl suffered the loss dropping her record to 5-3 overall. She allowed six runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout in the first 1-2/3 innings.

UW's Ramuno gave up two runs on five hits with zero walks and 13 strikeouts.

The OUTRIGGER Invitational concludes with three games on Saturday. Hawai'i plays a doubleheader, first taking on Howard at 12:30 p.m. HT followed by a rematch with Washington at 3:00 p.m. HT.
