STANFORD, Calif. – Both the coed and women's squads for University of Hawai'i sailing were in action this weekend in a pair of regattas hosted by Stanford in Northern California. The Rainbow Wahine finished second in the Bryson Women's Invite, while the coed sailors also finished runner-up in the PCCSC Top-Nine Regatta.
The women's team competed in a total of 18 races - nine in each A and B divisions - totaling 77 points in a second-place finish. The A division featured sailors Vivian Bønsager and Stella Taherian, and Malia Johnson and Peyton Lieser sailed in the B division. Host Stanford finished in first place with a regatta-low 56 points.
In the PCCSC Top-Nine Regatta, the coed team found similar success racing in 18 races split evenly between the A and B divisions, finishing with 115 points for a second-place finish. Everett McAvoy and Sophia Shaeffer competed in the A division, whereas Erik Anderson and Amanda Turner represented Division B. Host Stanford outpaced the competition with 74 points in a first-place finish.
The Rainbow Wahine sailors will be back in action next weekend Feb. 22-23 in St. Petersburg, Fla., for the South Florida Team Race. The coed sailors return shortly after on Mar. 7-9 in Los Angeles, when they will compete for the Port of L.A. Harbor Cup.
