Men's Basketball Routs Cal State Fullerton to End Skid

HONOLULU  – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team blitzed Cal State Fullerton in the first 10 minutes and never looked back in an 82-57 win Saturday night at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

Two nights after falling victim to a massive run in a loss to UC San Diego, the 'Bows turned the tables with a 27-6 game-opening run on Saturday against Fullerton to help snap a season-long three-game losing streak. UH improved to 13-9 overall and 5-6 in the Big West while completing a season sweep of the Titans.

The 'Bows built their lead to as many as 32 points and finished the game with the program's fourth largest margin of victory ever in a Big West game.

Ten different Warriors made the scoring column with four in double-digits. Tom Beattie and Harry Rouhliadeff led a balanced attack with 14 points each, while Akira Jacobs and Marcus Greene each added 10.

Rouhliadeff hit two three-pointers and shot 6 for 11 from the field overall. He also grabbed 11 rebounds for his first career double-double performance. Beattie finished 7 for 10 from the field and dished out a team-high five assists. Jerome Palm contributed seven points and nine rebounds and UH built a 47-32 advantage on the boards.

UH shot 44.3 percent overall to Cal State Fullerton's 36.5 percent and went 10 for 30 from three-point range.

UH spotted the Titans the first two points of the game and after that it was all Rainbow Warriors. The 'Bows scored 27 of the next 31 points of the game to go up by 21 points less than 10 minutes into the game.

The run was sparked by 15 unanswered points, including the first eight by Jacobs, who kicked it off with a four-point play. UH ultimately took a 37-20 lead into the break. The Titans shot just 22 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, converting more free throws (8) than field goals (6) and going 0-of-7 from beyond the arc. Rouhliadeff went into halftime with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting and six rebounds.

The Warriors remained firmly in control throughout the second half and the Titans would get no closer than 15 points after the break. Beattie hit all four of his field-goal attempts in the second half and UH shot 47.4 percent as a team over the final 20 minutes.

UH out-scored Fullerton 40-22 in the paint and got more than half its points from the bench (42).

Donovan Oday led Cal State Fullerton (6-17, 1-10) with 13 points and Antwan Robinson and Zachary Visentin finished with 10 each.

The Rainbow Warriors now head to the road for a pair of games, beginning with a contest at Cal Poly on Thursday, Feb. 6. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m. PT at the Mott Athletics Center.
