IRVINE, Calif.--University of Hawai'i swimmers
Tim Brown and
Quincy Key both earned their first Big West Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday after strong performances at last week's dual meet against Utah in Salt Lake City.
Brown, a senior from Peachtree City, Ga., won gold in the 50 freestyle, hitting the wall with a blazing-fast time of 20.76. Brown also helped the Rainbow Warriors clinch silver in both the 200 medley and the 200 free relay. He anchored the 200 medley with a 20.09 split to clinch second place. In the 200 free relay, Brown swam the second leg in a split time of 19.87 to record the fastest split of the competition in both relays.
Key, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M., helped to lead the Rainbow Wahine to a pair of relay victories while finishing third in the 50 free (23.82) against the Utes. The speedster swam the fastest split (22.93) of the meet as she anchored the 200 medley relay to clinch the gold with with a total time of 1:44.02. Key also swam the second leg of the first place 200 free relay squad with a split of 23.21 as UH cruised to the win, 1:35.56. Individually, Key finished third in the 50 free touching the wall at 23.82.
The Hawai'i swimming and diving teams wrap up their home schedule with a pair of dual meets. The 'Bows will take on BYU on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 11:00 a.m. HT and then will host Pacific Lutheran on UH's Senior Night on Monday, Jan. 5th. Both meets will be held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
