Hill Receives Contract Extension Through 2029

HONOLULU – Hawai'i baseball head coach Rich Hill received a contract extension through the 2029 season, Director of Athletics Matt Elliott announced Friday.

"The winning culture that Coach Hill has created has made Rainbow Warrior baseball one of the most exciting programs in the country," said Elliott. "We are thrilled that Coach will continue to develop student-athletes both on and off the field here in Hawai'i, and look forward to his leadership contributing many more memorable moments to a storied program."

Through four seasons as skipper, Hill has led the Rainbow Warriors to a record of 129-81, including a 73-41 record in Big West play. He has also led the 'Bows to their first four winning seasons since joining the Big West and has guided the program to back-to-back 35-win seasons for the first time since 1991-92.

"I really want to express my sincere and enthusiastic gratitude to President Wendy Hensel and Athletic Director Matt Elliott. With this next step for Hawai'i baseball it is clear we mean business," said Hill. "President Hensel and Athletic Director Elliott have shown exceptional leadership since the day they set foot on campus. I am honored to serve as the Rainbow Baseball head coach and look forward to continuing to bring out the best in our student-athletes, represent the amazing community of Hawai'i, and foster excellence in the classroom."

"This is a bold statement and message by our leadership that we are definitely Our Team, Hawai'i's Team."

Under Hill, Hawai'i has turned Les Murakami Stadium into one of the toughest places to play in the nation. UH is 70-27 at home over the last three seasons and has won 25-plus games at home in each of the last two years.

Hill's teams have also drawn some of the biggest crowds on the West Coast during his tenure, with UH leading all teams in the west and finishing 19th nationally in average attendance in 2025. The 'Bows also sold out 12 home games in 2025, the most in a season for the program since 1994.

Hawai'i has posted some of its best numbers in all phases of the game under Hill's guidance. UH led the nation in ERA in 2024 and finished in the top 20 again last season while helping the 'Bows to their four best offensive seasons since joining the Big West in each of his four years at the helm.

President Hensel, AD Elliott, and Coach Hill reaffirm their commitment to elevating the profile of the Rainbow Warrior baseball program and pursuing excellence. They encourage the entire Hawai'i community to join in and support the baseball program and all UH teams. Fans and supporters can give to the Boost The 'Bows NIL fund to help the UH baseball program retain elite local student-athletes, and recruit the best student-athletes from all over the world.

UH will open Hill's fifth year leading the Rainbow Warrior baseball program on Feb. 13 against Gonzaga at Les Murakami Stadium.
