Kansei Matsuzawa added another prestigious honor to his resume becoming the second Rainbow Warrior in program history to be selected to the Associated Press All-America first team.
Matsuzawa joins Al Noga, who earned the distinction in 1986, as the only Rainbow Warriors named to the first team. Just last week, Matsuzawa became the first UH player to earn first-team All-America honors by Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The Tokyo, Japan native is the first Rainbow Warrior to be recognized by the Associated Press since wide receiver Greg Salas earned third team honors in 2010. Matsuzawa was also the first UH player to receive Midseason All-America honors by the Associated Press.
The Associated Press All-America team was voted on by 52 media members throughout the country, all of whom make up the AP Top 25 voting panel. It is one of five All-America teams that make up the NCAA's annual consensus team along with Walter Camp, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), The Sporting News, and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
Thus far, Matsuzawa has been named to two of the five All-America teams with the other three teams being announced this week. The "Tokyo Toe" was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, which went to Oklahoma's Tate Sandell.
Matsuzawa, who finished the regular season 25-of-26 in field goal attempts, has already been named to several other All-America teams including CBS Sports' first team.
