COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Hawai'i quarterback
Micah Alejado was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a 27-7 victory over Wyoming Saturday at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
In all, the Las Vegas, Nev., native has received the award seven times in his career after winning it for the first time following last season's regular season finale against New Mexico.
On Saturday, Alejado set a new UH freshman single-season record throwing his 20
th and 21
st touchdown passes, surpassing
Timmy Chang (19 in the 2000 season). He completed 17-of-24 attempts for 289 yards and a pair of scoring strikes to
Cam Barfield and
Jackson Harris, the latter of which went for 78-yards, the fourth time the pair connected on a touchdown of 70+ yards this season.
In total, UH has received 17 Mountain West player of the week awards this season – three offensive, three defensive, five special teams, and six freshmen – by far, the most in a single-season in program history, breaking the previous mark of seven in 2021.
The Warriors concluded the regular season with an 8-4 mark – their most wins since 2019 – and will now await a bowl announcement.
