Swim & Dive Battles on Day 3 of SMU Invitational

DALLAS — The University of Hawai'i swim and dive teams wrapped up Day 3 of the SMU Invitational on Friday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatic Center in Dallas.

For the second-straight day, Rainbow Wahine swimmer Zofia Tyminska led Hawai'i by winning her second event of the four-day meet. Tyminska captured gold in the 200 breaststroke clocking in with the third-fastest time in UH history at 2:11.56 as she edged out Drury's Gwen Bergum by 0.22 seconds.

The Rainbow Warriors recorded a pair of program top 10 times In the prelims, including Andrew Simmons who is now ranked at No. 10 in the UH record books in the 100 back with a time of 48.07. Mario Surkovic first entered the Hawai'i record books with the No. 9 time in the 50 free (19.74). In the afternoon, Surkovic lowered his time in the 50 free finals to climb up the record ladder with a time of 19.65 vaulting into fifth-place in UH history.

The UH men and women notched strong performances in the 50 free, Rainbow Warrior Karol Ostrowski earned bronze in the 50 free (19.39) while Finn Brophy recorded the ninth-fastest time in program history (19.73). On the women's side, Holly Nelson placed fourth, touching the wall at 22.43 for the fourth fastest mark in UH history.

The Rainbow Wahine 400 medley relay A team of Eva Kovaluk, Tyminska, Mia Blazevska Eminova and Holly Nelson finished third with a time of 3:39.39, while the Hawai'i B relay team (Aziza Meyer, Alexia Kovaluk, Isabelle Meraz and Quincy Key came in sixth overall after winning the 400 medley relay consolation heat edging out SMU's B team by just .02 of a second. The Rainbow Warriors' 400 medley relay squad of Ostrowski, Surkovic, Jack Simon and Brophy placed fifth reaching the wall with a time of 3:08.58. 

In diving, four Rainbow Wahine made it to the final round with Macie Wheeler finishing strong to claim= silver in the women's 1-meter dive tallying a total score of 554.15 (prelim and final scores combined).  UH's Lovissa Gustavsson finished sixth with a 553.40 score, while Ruby Pickron ended in 13th-place with a total score of 488.90 and Keira Chandler ended with a 464.50 to finish in 17th.

Rainbow Warrior Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo finished in fourth place in the 3-meter dive with a total score of 669.95 while Oliver Wignall came in 10th-place with a total score of 591.95.


UH returns to the pool on Saturday for the final day of the SMU Invitational, with prelims beginning at 6:00 a.m. HT and finals set for 1:00 p.m. HT at the Robson Lindley Aquatic Center.
