SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team continued to compete in The Big West Fall Selection Event hosted by UC San Diego at the Northview Tennis Courts on Saturday. Sophomore Makeilah Nepomuceno won her two main draw singles matches to breakthrough into Sunday's championship match. Two of UH's doubles pairs—Sophie Rachor/Grete Gull and Hannah Galindo/Nepomuceno—both advanced into both sides of Sunday's semifinals.
 
In the quarterfinals singles main draw, Nepomuceno pulled away down the stretch to defeat Cal Poly's Natalie Lynch, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.Nepomuceno then held off fifth seeded Cecilia Costa in straight sets ending in a marathon tie-breaker, 6-4, 7-6 (9) to punch her ticket into Sunday's Finals. In the Championship match, she will take on Long Beach State's Pamela Badilla Hernande.
 
In the doubles main draw, Hawai'i's Rachor and Gull joined forces to down UCSD's Hāna Gamracy and Julie Visaya by a break, 8-4, while UH's Galindo and Nepomuceno edged out and upset Cal Poly's second-seeded Jessica MacCallum and Candela Aparisi in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (3) to stay alive in the main draw.
 
UH's Rachor and Gull advances to the Semifinal Round against UC Santa Barbara's Raphaelle Leroux and My-Anh Holmes, while Nepomuceno and Galindo will take on Cal Poly's Kennedy Buntrock and Natalie Lynch. The main draw doubles semifinals will be held at the Northview Tennis Courts on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 a.m. HT,
