SALEM, Ore. – Lucy Milliner shattered the program 5k record and picked up her second win of the season to lead the Hawai'i women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Charles Bowles Invitational Saturday.
Milliner ran 16:45.10 and topped the 24-year old school record previously held by Cheryl Smith (16:56.33, 2001) by over 11 seconds. She won comfortably – coming in nine seconds ahead of the runner-up – to earn her second win of the season in as many events after also taking home the win at the season-opening Big Wave Invitational.
The sophomore now holds four different program records between cross country, indoor and outdoor track. As a freshman, Milliner set UH records outdoors in the 800m and 1500m as well as in the indoor mile. She is also second in program history in the cross country 6k and second in the indoor 800m.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager joined Milliner in the top 10, running 17:26.00 to finish eighth for her third consecutive individual top 10 to start the season.
Zola O'Donnell made it three Rainbow Wahine in the top 20 with a 5k personal-best mark of 17:52.90 to come in 20th.
Lucy Becker also posted a cross country 5k PR with a time of 18:05.80 to place 30th, while
Harriet Greentree ran 18:23.00 to round out the UH scorers in 44th.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete two weeks from now at the Highlander Invitational, Oct. 18 in Riverside, Calif.
