HONOLULU – Hosting a conference championship meet for the first time since 2016, the Hawai'i cross country team turned in a ninth-place finish at the Big West Championships at Kapi'olani Park Friday morning.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager led the way for the Rainbow Wahine, coming in 25th with a time of 22:16.2 while Mililani native
Zola O'Donnell came in close behind in 28th with a mark of 22:25.3.
Last year's conference freshman of the year
Lucy Milliner got off to a strong start and was neck-and-neck with eventual race winner Sylvana Northrop through the first 5k. The sophomore left it all out there before falling off the pace coming down the home stretch, eventually dropping out of the race with less than 100 meters to go.
Lucy Becker posted a 41st-place finish with a time of 22:45.2 while
Kira Moe ran a 24:04.9 to come in 74th and
Reece Trice placed 77th in 24:21.5 to round out the Hawai'i scorers.
The meet marked UH's final conference championship as members of the Big West, with the Rainbow Wahine set to move to the Mountain West starting next season.
