Women's Basketball Routs Hawaii Pacific in Final Exhibition

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team continued its run-up to the regular season with a 74-34 exhibition win over Hawai'i Pacific University on Tuesday at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
 
In their final exhibition leading into the official start of the 2025-26 season, the Rainbow Wahine shot 59.3% from the field and outscored the Sharks 54-6 in the paint.
 
The senior post duo of Imani Perez and Saniyah Neverson combined for 27 points on 12-for-16 shooting and 13 rebounds between them.
 
Neverson scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half and Perez finished with 14 points, 11 coming after halftime. Neverson's all-around performance also included six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.
 
Freshman guard Bailey Flavell added 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting and filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomroe Kira-May Filemu contributed nine points and swiped five of UH's 17 steals. In all, the 'Bows forced 32 turnovers and scored 35 points off of takeaways.
 
Kyla Hopton led HPU with 11 points with three 3-pointers. Eight of HPU's 12 made field goals came from 3-point range.
 
After HPU took an early 3-2 lead, UH went on an 13-0 run sparked by two steals leading to transition layups for Neverson. The UH lead grew to 15-3 when Perez drained the 'Bows' first 3-pointer of the night and Teyahna Bond converted another steal into a layup.
 
UH led 17-6 after the first quarter and went up 25-13 when Neverson hit a 3-pointer from the top. Flavell drove for a layup with three seconds left in the half and Filemu stole the inbounds pass and scored again while drawing a foul to send the 'Bows into halftime on an 8-0 run and with a 33-15 lead.  
 
HPU hit two 3-pointers to open the third quarter and cut the margin to 12 and prompt a UH timeout. Flavell scored inside and converted a three-point play and Perez and Neverson added to UH's total in the paint to stretch the UH lead to 42-21. Freshman Kyra Webb scored six points in a 14-0 UH surge to end the period and the 'Bows went a collective 9-for-13 in the third quarter.
 
Perez hit all three of her field-goal attempts in the fourth quarter, including her second 3-pointer of the game, and UH continued to build the lead through the final buzzer.
 
The Rainbow Wahine open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 4 against Portland State at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
