HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i swimming and diving teams both won their dual meets against Grand Canyon in front of a modern-day attendance record of 326 on Friday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The Rainbow Warriors edged out the 'Lopes, 117-107, while the Rainbow Wahine pulled away from GCU, 140-84.
Three Hawai'i swimmers clocked in with four Top 10 finishes in UH history while multiple divers tallied scores qualifying them to the NCAA Zone meet, Plus five DKAC records were broken--four by UH swimmers and one by a GCU swimmer.
The meet started with an exhibition of platform diving, where the Rainbow Wahine swept the top three spots. Lovisa Gustavsson won the event with a total score of 263.40—the ninth highest total in Rainbow Wahine history—with a best dive of 13.20. Macie Wheeler placed second (234.75) and Ruby Pickron finished third (205.43). Both Gustavsson and Wheeler's scores surpassed the NCAA platform zone qualifying mark of 225.
On the men's side, Hawai'i's Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo dominated on the platform, pulling away for the win with a 413.85 total score—the third highest mark in UH history. Freshman Oliver Wignall came in third with a score of 313.13. With their marks, both Tamayo and Wignall also qualified for the NCAA Zone meet.
Later both the men and women competed again on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard respectively. The Rainbow Wahine dominated, sweeping the top five places. Wheeler won the event with a total score of 323.70 while Gustavsson posted a 317.55 for second and Pickron notched a score of 290.78—all surpassing the NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 280.
Rainbow Warrior rookie Tristan Rodriguez led UH finishing in second place with a score of 299.94, followed by Tamayo in third with a 297.15.
Hawai'i swimmers won the first four events to start off. Both the UH men's and women's "A" teams set new DKAC records as they won the 200 medley relays. The Rainbow Wahine team of Alexa Ozment, Eva Kovaluk, Alexia Kovaluk and Quincy Key joined forces to win with a time of 1:39.26 that improved from the previous DKAC record of 1:40.78 set last year in 2024. The men (Karol Ostrowski, Thomas Aguero, Jack Simon and Tim Brown) clocked in with a time of 1:26.83 which bettered the previous pool record of 1:28.08 which was also set last year.
In the 1000 free, the Wahine claimed the top three times with Gabriela Kelly touching the wall at 10:10.03 to finish ranked No. 8 in the UH record books. Esther Le Maigat-Lecou came in second with a time of 10:17.45 and Aoife Harkin finished third at 10:21.25.
The Warriors' Eric Kupsky won the 1000 free with a time of 9:18.55 to place fifth all-time in the UH record books. Kupsky also swam the 10th fastest time in the 400 IM while setting a new DKAC record, winning the race with a time of 3:54.37. The previous pool record was set in 1991 by Wyoming's Rob Clayton (3:55.65)
Hawai'i speedster Karol Ostrowski claimed gold and set a pair of DKAC record in the 50 free (19.57) and 100 free (43.09). The previous record in the 100 free was previously held by both Rusian Gaziev of Ohio State (2024) and Ostrowski (2025) at 43.37 and the former record for the 50 free was 19.67 set by Vladimir Morozov of USC in 2013. UH's Aleks Tomaszewski won the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.25, while Jack Simon came in second place at 48.36.
Alexa Ozment secured gold in the 100 back with a time of 55.45, followed by Eva Kovaluk who touched the wall at 56.54.
In the 100 free, Hawai'i's Holly Nelson came in first clocking in at 49.62.
Freshman Carlotta Ingenerf won the 400 IM, recording the sixth fastest time in Rainbow Wahine history at 4:20.08.
The Rainbow Wahine "A" team of Quincy Key, Brooke Bennett, Mia Blazhevska Eminova and Holly Nelson secured UH's final victory of the night in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:21.44.
The final race of the night came down to a photo-finish as Grand Canyon came back to catch and overtake the Warriors at the wall, finishing on-tenth of a second ahead of the 'Bows.
UH resumes action against GCU tomorrow, beginning with diving at 10:00 a.m. HT, followed by swimming at 11:00 a.m. HT at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
