Kansei Matsuzawa were honored by the Mountain West for their performances in the Rainbow Warriors' 44-26 victory over Utah State on Saturday.
Alejedo was named Freshman of the Week; Otis was Defensive Player of the Week; and Matsuzawa earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors. For Alejado, it marks his third freshman of the week award this season and fourth of his career. Matsuzawa also received his fourth special teams award while Otis won his first defensive player of the week award this season and second of his career.
The trio helped the Warriors snap and eight-game losing streak to the Aggies. UH matched its season-high in points and totaled a new season-high with 546 yards of total offense. Otis
Micah Alejado
- Posted his second-straight 400-yard passing game with 413 yards, completing 34-of-54 passes and three touchdowns.
- First quarterback with back-to-back 400-yard passing games since Cole McDonald in the first two weeks of the 2018 season (at Colorado State, vs. Navy).
- Has three 400-yard passing performances in his first six career starts becoming the first FBS quarterback to do so since 2019 (Anthony Gordon, Washington State).
- Has thrown for 870 passing yards in the last two games, the most by an FBS quarterback in a two-game stretch this season.
- One of two FBS quarterbacks to throw for 400-plus yards in back-to-back games this season (Sawyer Robertson, Baylor).
- Recorded his first career rushing touchdown on a 15-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.
- All three of his touchdowns went to receiver Pofele Ashlock, all in the first half.
Jamih Otis
- Was in on both of UH's takeaways, forcing a fumble, while also recording his first career interception in the fourth quarter.
- Also added five tackles and one quarterback hurry.
- His forced fumble led to UH's final touchdown of the game.
- His interception sealed the victory on USU's final drive.
- Anchored defense which allowed only six second half points.
Kansei Matsuzawa
- Converted on all three field goal attempts improving to a perfect 19-of-19 on the season.
- Dating back to last season, has made 20 straight field goals, tying the school record for consecutive field goals made with former UH All-American Jason Elam who achieved the feat within the 1989 season.
- Co-leads nation with eight field goals of 40 or more yards (Ethan Sanchez, Houston).
- Has multiple field goals in all seven games this season.
- Moved into eighth on the UH all-time field goals made list with 31.
- His 19 field goals this year is tied for the third most in a single-season and is just two off the record of 21 held by Richard Spelman (21).
