HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team concluded the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational on Sunday. The 'Bows competed against members of the 10^th-ranked California Golden Bears on Sunday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
The Rainbow Wahine came out firing, winning three of their doubles matches. The UH duo of Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova pulled away to defeat Cal's Jessica Alsola and Berta Passola Folch, 6-2. The Hawai'i pair of Joelle Lanz and Emma Forgac followed with a 6-3 victory over the Golden Bears' Katja Wiersholm and Lan Mi, 6-3. UH's Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno defeated Cal's Sophie Hernandez and Cami Brown. 6-3.
 
Although the Rainbow Wahine fought hard, California roared back to win seven of eight singles matches to end the tournament. The lone UH singles winner was Lanz who after dropping the first set, battled her way back to defeat Cal's Cami Brown in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
 
UH's Galindo's match also went to three sets. She evened her match against Tiziana Schomburg with a 6-0 win in the second set. But Schomburg held off Galindo in the third frame to claim victory, 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.
 
The Rainbow Wahine have a couple days off before hosting the Weinman Foundation Invitatioal from Wednesday, Jan. 8 – Saturday, Jan. 11 at the UH Tennis Complex. The 'Bows will host No. 1 Texas A&M and 13^th-ranked Southern California in the four-day tourney.
