HONOLULU – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team completed a two-match series sweep of 20
th-ranked McKendree with a straight-set win Sunday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-20, 25-19, 25-16.
The Rainbow Warriors (2-0) hit for a blistering .463 in the match and were much more efficient than two nights ago when they needed four sets to dispatch the Bearcats (0-2). UH committed only 24 errors in the match compared to 43 on Friday.
Kristian Titriyski led the way with 17 kills, hitting at a .448 clip with two aces and didn't commit his first attack error until his 21
st attempt.
Adrien Roure added 13 kills, hitting .478, with one ace and three digs.
Clay Wieter had six kills, five digs, and a match-high four blocks and setter
Tread Rosenthal dished out 40 assists along with six digs, two aces, and one block.
D'Aaron McCraney had eight kills, hitting .636 to lead the Bearcats.
UH rallied from an early deficit in Set 1 to tie the score at 12. The Warriors then used a 5-0 run, including a pair of kills by Roure, to take a 21-18 lead. Hawai'i closed out the set on a 9-2 run – spurred by
Finn Kearney's service turn – and hit .625 in the frame.
Set 2 began as another back-and-forth affair until UH surged ahead 18-14 after a four-point run on serving specialist
Kai Taylor's service turn. The Bearcats pulled within two but the Warriors scored the final four points – two kills and a block by
Kurt Nusterer – to close out the set.
UH jumped out to a 7-2 lead in Set 3 and made it 15-9 with the help of two Wieter blocks. The Warriors sided-out at 94% in the set.
Hawai'i returns to action with a two-match series against Harvard, Wednesday, Jan. 8 and Friday, Jan. 10 at SimpliFi Arena.
