HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-2, 1-0 Big West) jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the match vs. Saint Mary's, but the Rainbow Wahine saw their lead evaporate as the Gaels rallied to stun the 'Bows, 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.

Hawai'i got out of the gates quickly, earning the doubles point with Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt rolling over Iman Khan and Tiana Fox, 6-1 on the No. 1 Court. On the No. 2 Court, UH's Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno edged out SMC's MiaAngelina Ruja and Olivia Rook by a break, 6-4 to capture the first point.

The 'Bows then took a 3-0 lead as Ramsted defeated Khan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 and UH's No. 2 Nikola Homolkova pulled away in the second set to sweep the Gaels' Ruja, 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Saint Mary's then turned the tide and won the last four straight matches. SMC's No. 6 Madison Weekley held off UH's Nepomuceno, 7-5, 6-4. The Gaels' Rook followed with a three set win over UH's Galindo at No. 3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. SMC's No. 5 Stefanie Silva snuck past UH's Joelle Lanz for a three-set win to tie the match at 3-3 (6-2, 5-7, 6-4). Saint Mary's Juliette Daries was locked in a battle with UH's Emma Forgac on the No. 4 Court. Although Forgac fought her way back to tie the match at a set apiece with a second set tie-breaker, Daries was able to hold off Forgac in the third set to complete the comeback win, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5.

The Rainbow Wahine and Gaels' match was originally scheduled to be played on Thursday morning, but heavy rains postponed the match to Friday afternoon. 

Hawai'i has a quick turnaround as they will wrap up their month-long homestand against North Dakota on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11:00 a.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
