Women's Tennis Sweeps North Dakota

Box Score HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's teams (3-2, 1-0 Big West) recorded its first sweep of the season, downing North Dakota (3-1, Summit League), 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.

Hawai'i jumped out fast, gaining the doubles point with victories by UH's No. 1 pair of Sheena Masuda and Peppi Ramstedt cruising past the North Dakota duo of Ethel Li and Aziza Aubin, 6-1. On the No. 3 Court, the 'Bows duo of Nikola Homolkova and Allaire Berl squeezed by the Fighting Hawks' duo of Andrea Pineda and Alyssa Giupponi, 6-4 to take the first point.

The 'Bows took their momentum into their singles matches, capturing all six of the singles points in stellar fashion. UH's No. 2 Nikola Homolkova led things off, sweeping UND's Jule Schulte, 6-2, 6-2. On Court No. 6, UH's Makeilah Nepomuceno recorded her first collegiate dual match victory, defeating North Dakota's Alyssa Giupponi, 6-2, 6-2. UH's No. 1 Peppi Ramstedt clinched the win for the Rainbow Wahine by defeating UND's Andrea Pineda in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. UH's No. 4 Joelle Lanz won in straight sets against ND's Nore Heinitz, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3, Hawai'i's Emma Forgac was locked in a tough battle against the Fighting Hawks' Ethel Li. Forgac was able to hold off Li in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. UH's Sheena Masuda was engaged in a tough match with UND's Aziza Aubin on the No. 5 court. Masuda fell in the first set but clawed her way back to win the second set and even the match at a set apiece. With the match already in hand, Masuda won the super set tie-breaker to complete the team sweep over the Fighting Hawks with a 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory.

The win over North Dakota wraps up Hawai'i's month-long homestand to start the 2025 season. This week, the Rainbow Wahine will travel abroad for a quick trip to Japan where they will compete in four exhibition matches spanning from Feb. 5-9 against Waseda (Tokyo), Himeji (Hyogo), Konan (Kobe City) and Kansai (Osaka).
