Men's Basketball Hosts Second-Place UC San Diego At Big West Midway Point

HONOLULU  The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team hits the halfway mark of the Big West regular season with a home matchup against UC San Diego on Thursday, Jan 30 . Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center. 

After two straight road losses, the Rainbow Warriors (12-8, 4-5 Big West)  look to get back on track and keep pace in a tight Big West race. UH will face a Triton squad (17-4, 7-2) who lead the conference in scoring defense (62.4) and are second in scoring offense (80.0), while currently sitting a game out of first place in the league standings.

GAME STORY LINES
  • After two straight road losses, UH looks to get back on track with a home game vs. UC San Diego.
  • The 'Bows are currently in a tie for seventh in the Big West standings with CSU Bakersfield. UCSD is a game behind UC Irvine for first place.
  • UH has won seven of eight all-time meetings between the teams and all five in Honolulu.
  • The teams split last year's games with the 'Bows pulling out a thrilling 94-86 overtime home win in the most recent meeting.
  • UH was the top shooting team in the Big West at 48%, before suffering two of its three worst shooting games of the season at UC Davis (36%) and at UC Irvine (31%).
  • The Tritons lead the Big West and rank 11th in the NCAA In scoring defense at 62.4 ppg. The 'Bows are averaging 72.4 ppg this year.
  • UCSD leads the nation in turnover margin (+7.4), is second in steals (10.7). and sixth in turnovers forced per game (16.7). UH ranks 347th in the NCAA in turnover margin (-4.0), while averaging 13.1 turnovers per game.
  • Following its game at UC San Diego, the 'Bows will play Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.
