MISSION BAY, Calif. – The Rainbow Wahine sailing team trounced the field this weekend to capture its fourth straight title at the Jeff Simon Women's Regatta, hosted Jan. 25-26 by UC San Diego.
A total of seven teams
representing five schools from Hawai'i and California competed at the Jeff Simon Women's Regatta. The event drew to a close late Saturday afternoon and
wrapped up with 12 total races—six
in each A and B divisions.
Hawai'i's two entered teams finished at the top of the standings, led by UH's top squad of Vivian Bønsager, Stella Taherian, Martha Schuessler, Morgan Carew, and Ann Tokoyoda, who posted a regatta-low 13 points. Bønsager and Taherian performed at their peak, winning every race they competed in at this regatta.
UH's other team placed just a spot behind, concluding the event with 25 total points, and distancing itself from the nearest competitor by 26 points. This squad featured
Elizabeth Fourney,
Avery Hogue,
Sophia Shaeffer, and
Elin Reigstad.
Host UC San Diego's two teams finished the event in third and fourth place.
The Rainbow Wahine sailors will next compete on Feb. 15-16 at the Bryson Women's Invitational as they aim to carry their momentum into their return to Stanford, Calif.
