HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will take a shot at history on Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Rainbow Wahine host "Beeman's Bigger Bash" with the aim of breaking the program's single-game attendance record.
The 'Bows will take on UC Irvine in a matchup of two of the Big West's top contenders at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
The program's current record for a stand-alone game was set in 1998 with 6,192 fans watching the 'Bows take on SMU. Last year, "Beeman's Big Bash" drew 5,068 fans to cheer on a victory over UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 17, 2024, setting a new attendance record during head coach
Laura Beeman's tenure and ranking as the highest attended game in over two decades.
"Last year was huge," said Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement
Eric Mathews. "It showed fans how much pride they take in women's basketball, and how united we are as a department behind every team. The plan for this Saturday is going to exceed the mark we made a year ago."
To ring in the special occasion, UH will be handing out bobbleheads designed after Coach Beeman to the first 1,000 fans through the doors, courtesy of Ho'ea. Throughout the night UH will also be giving away 1,000 shirts courtesy of American Savings Bank, including t-shirt tosses, random prizes, and overall fun. The shirts are based on the "sUHrf City" fan designed-uniform the team will be wearing for the game.
The "sUHrf City" uniform design was submitted by Isaac Daggett, a designer from Colorado Springs, Colo., as a part of a global fan-design contest in partnership with UniWatch, the first of its kind in college athletics. The contest brought in 125 entries spanning five countries and 20 states. The "sUHrf City" design was a part of finalist group that was selected by fans on social media, and the winner was picked by the team and coaching staff.
The jerseys will be available for auction at
Hawaiiathletics.com/BiggerBashAuction beginning on Thursday, Jan. 23 and running through Monday, Jan. 27, with all proceeds going to back to Rainbow Wahine basketball. In honor of his winning design, Daggett will be in attendance for Saturday's game.
