HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-0) rallied to win its dual match opener over Nevada, 4-3 on Thursday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. After dropping the doubles point, the Rainbow Wahine battled their way back, winning four singles matches to edge out the Wolf Pack.
Nevada captured the doubles point to start the match, winning on the No. 3 and 1 courts for the early 1-0 lead.
UH's No. 1, senior
Ana Vilcek quickly evened the score with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Amahee Charrier. Hawai'i then took the lead as No. 3
Peppi Ramstedt cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over UNR's Silvia Costache. Nevada knotted the score at 2-2 as Wiem Boubaker defeated UH's
Sheena Masuda, 6-1, 6-3 on the No. 5 court.
Hawai'i No. 2
Nikola Homolkova held off Nevada's Marlene Foerster in straight-sets that ended in a hard fought tie-breaker, 6-4, 7-6 (6). UH's No. 6
Joelle Lanz then pulled away to defeat UNR's Petra Janigova in three sets to clinch the Rainbow Wahine's first win of the season, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
In the extra match, UH's Makeila Nepomuceno defeated Kennedy Robinson in three sets, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2.
The Rainbow Wahine have a quick turnaround as it takes on Washington on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
