The upcoming regatta is an important test for both sailing teams as they gear up for a competitive spring schedule consisting of nine total races for the coed team and eight for the women.
The UH coed sailors, will spend much of their season along the California coast with a half dozen regattas in the Golden State. Among them is the prestigious LA Harbor Cup, March 7-9, in Southern California. The 'Bows captured that regatta for the first time ever two years ago.
The Rainbow Wahine, conversely, will be traveling coast-to-coast in the Spring. UH will travel to both Northern and Southern California and will head east for a pair of regattas in Florida and Maryland. UH will also host the PCCSC conference championship in its home waters over a three-day period in early April.
Both the coed and women sailors look to conclude its season with appearances in the ICSA National Championships. The women, who won the 2001 national title, have made three straight appearances and 21 of 27 overall in the fleet race. The coed team, which captured the 2004 national title, has earned a berth in two of the last three seasons. This year's fleet race championship will be hosted in late May by St. Mary's College in Maryland.
