Men's Tennis To Face Nevada, HPU

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (0-4) will play a pair of dual matches to continue their monthlong stay on island. First the Rainbow Warriors will take on former Western Athletic Conference and future Mountain West foe, Nevada on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 4:00 p.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex. The 'Bows will then head across the Pali to take on cross-town rival Hawai'i Pacific on Friday, Jan. 17 at 5:00 p.m. HT at the Kailua Racquet Club.

  HAWAI'I RAINBOW WARRIORS (0-4, Big West)University of Hawaii Logo• The Rainbow Warriors have played tough competition to start the season--No. 10 Florida State, No. 43 SMU, and SEC-opponent Arkansas twice. Although the 'Bows are 0-4 entering into their third week of competition, UH has been improving  every match.
• 77th-ranked Azuma Visaya won his last two matches in dramatic, third set super tie-breaker fashion. Visaya is now 3-5 overall. In UH's opening weekend, Visaya earned the first Big West Player of the Week award after holding off FSU's 22nd-ranked Jamie Connel in straight sets, 6-4. 7-6 (11-9). Overall, Visaya is 3-3 in singles and 2-2 playing at No. 1 in dual matches.
• Playing in his first singles match of the season, Diego Dalisay came through with a victory against Arkansas. Playing at No. 3 in the lineup, Dalisay dropped his first set but battled back to edge out the Razorbacks' Marino Jakic, 2-6, 7-5 1-0 (10-8).

Last meeting: Last year, the Wolf pack won 4-2 at the Golden State Invitational in Davis, Calif.
Team notes: This is Nevada's opening weekend. The Wolf Pack's Petra Janigova and Marlene Foers enter the season ranked at No. 95 in doubles to lead Nevada. 
 • Last year, Nevada recorded a 6-14 overall record and was 2-4 in the Mountain West
• Leading Nevada into the 2025 season is 121st-ranked Youssef Kadiri in singles. Kadiiri and Lucas Hammond are also ranked No. 63 in the ITA rankings to start the season.

Team notes: The Sharks will open the season against Nevada this Wednesday. 
• For current Hawai'i head coach Hendrik Bode, this will mark the first time facing his former team in a dual match format. Bode was the HPU head coach for the past 13 seasons and is an alum of HPU as well. Bode led the Sharks to the NCAA DII title in 2016.
• The Sharks enter 2025 ranked No. 20 in the ITA DII poll. HPU's Julius Hell is ranked at No. 40 and teammate Adam Vasir is right behind at No. 41
