KAHUKU, O'ahu – The Hawai'i cross country team got its 2024 season off to a dominant start, sweeping the top five spots to win the Big Wave Invitational Saturday at Kahuku Golf Course.
It's the second straight year that the Rainbow Wahine have completed a clean sweep of the top five spots at the season-opening meet after putting up the minimum 15 points at the 2023 Big Wave Invitational.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager got her sophomore season off to a winning start, running a 18:09.8 to lead the way for UH. Freshman
Lucy Milliner turned in a strong run in her collegiate debut, finishing runner-up with a time of 18:28.6 while senior transfer
Sariah Hernandez rounded out the top three with a time of 18:43.4 in her Rainbow Wahine debut.
Sophomore
Zola O'Donnell came in fourth with a time of 19:36.9 while another freshman,
Kira Moe, closed out the UH top five with a time of 19:53.1.
Three other Rainbow Wahine runners placed in the top 10, giving UH eight of the first 10 finishers.
Nicole Sevcikova placed seventh with a time of 20:13.7 followed by freshman
Lucy Becker with a mark of 20:13.7 and
Gemma Warman with a time of 20:34.3.
The Rainbow Wahine will have next week off before competing in the UCR Invitational, Sept. 21 in Riverside, Calif.
