HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team opens its 2024-25 campaign with a trip to Japan for the Pan Pacific Super League Tournament, Sept. 4-6 in Mishima City, Japan.
The trip to Japan is UH's first sanctioned regular season tournament since competing in the Naris Cup in 2009. That event was hosted by Osaka Gakuin in Okayama, Japan and the Rainbow Warriors took home the team title.
The Super League Tournament is part of a 10-event schedule for the Rainbow Warriors in 2024-25 – four in the fall season and six in the spring. UH will play host to three tournaments – Kapolei Invitational in October, Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in November, and John A. Burns Intercollegiate in February. Another annual event for Hawai'i is the Amer Ari Intercollegiate in February on the island of Hawai'i and co-hosted by UH and Division II UH-Hilo meaning the Warriors will play on all four major islands this season.
UH returns six letterwinners headlined by
Josh Hayashida, who finished third on the team with a 73.19 scoring average last season. This summer, the Mililani, O'ahu native defended his title at the prestigious Mānoa Cup which is considered the state of Hawai'i's top amateur tournament. Also returning is
Dane Watanabe, who as a freshman last season, was one of three players to compete in all 10 tournaments.
Tyler Ogawa and
Garrett Takeuchi both return for their senior years.
Following the Super League Tournament, Hawai'i will compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Oct. 7-8, in Fairfax, Calif., before returning home to host the Kapolei Invite, Oct. 29-31, at O'ahu's Kapolei Golf Course and the Kā'anapali Classic, Nov. 2-4, at Maui's Royal Kā'anapali Golf Course.
The Warriors open the spring season on the Big Island for the Amer Ari Intercollegiate, Feb. 6-8, in Waimea which attracts the top programs in the country and is annually considered one of the nation's top collegiate tournaments. Following the Amer Ari, UH will island hop to Kaua'i to host the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 13-15, at Ocean Course Hokuala for the fourth consecutive year.
In March, Hawai'i will compete in both the Lamkin Classic, March 10-11, in San Diego, Calif., and Thunderbirds Intercollegiate, March 17-18, in Tucson, Ariz., before closing out the regular season with the Western Intercollegiate, April 14-16, in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Big West Championship is slated for April 27-29 in La Quinta, Calif.
