Rainbow Sailors Open Season Strong In SoCal

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team kicked off its 2024-25 campaign with a second-place finish in the PCCSC Match Racing Championship hosted by USC at the Long Beach Yacht Club.

Coming off last year's campaign which saw them advance to the ICSA Nationals, the Rainbows picked up right where they left off finishing runner-up against four other conference foes in overcast conditions. UH, sailing in Soling class keelboats, went 5-3 in double round-robin action. Stanford won the regatta by going a perfect 8-0 on the day.

All-conference skipper Erik Anderson steered the Rainbows with Everett McAvoy, Kees Horn and Vivian Bonsager serving as crew. The group put out a solid performance winning  head-to-head races against Cal, Cal Maritime (2) and host USC (2), while falling short against Stanford.

The Rainbows will be right back in action in California next weekend with the PCCSC Singlehanded Championships, Sept. 28-29, in Santa Barbara.
